The Arts and Civic
Engagement: Involved
In Arts, Involved In
Life |
|
This study,
conducted by
the National
Endowment
for the
Arts,
provides
statistically
reliable
data that
arts
participation
overwhelmingly
correlates
with
positive
individual
and civic
behaviors.
Healthy
communities
depend on
active
citizens.
The arts
play an
irreplaceable
role in
producing
both those
citizens and
communities.
The study
demonstrates
that arts
participants
are
measurably
different
from
non-participants
- more
active, more
involved,
and more
socially
engaged.

Music and Theater Arts |
|

and
contained

indicate
an
average
of 20%
higher
scores
for
those
students
with
high
arts
involvement
versus
those
with low
arts
involvement.
The
study
further
demonstrates
sustained
student
involvement
in
theater
arts
associates
with a
variety
of
developments
for
youth:
gains in
reading
proficiency,
gains in
self
concept
and
motivation,
and
